Cheryl Lynn Kennon

On June 23rd 2024 the heavens opened and accepted Cheryl Lynn Kennon as she passed away unexpectedly in her home. Cheryl was born December 1st 1958 in Anchorage, Alaska to Dorothy and John Kennon and grew up with her one sister, Kaleen. She was a bright student, she was advanced and was skipped ahead one grade level in 7th grade. She had many fond memories of her family summer road trips to visit relatives in the lower 48. Cheryl loved the scenery and nature of her home state and spent most of her time growing up outdoors. Whether she was cross country skiing, ice skating, hunting and fishing with her father, or just exploring she usually had her sidekick, her beloved Lab Shadow, with her on excursions. Cheryls love of dogs stayed strong her entire life, she deeply loved all her “babies” she ever had. In 1975 she had her only daughter, Jenny. Cheryl decided to spend the 80’s in warmer climates and packed herself and Jenny into a Volvo and drove them to California. While there Cheryl attended American River College while raising her daughter. California was also the place she met her husband, John Gulyasar, they would be married for 12 years. A few years later Cheryl and her little family hit the road again, this time landing in Texas. In Austin Cheryl started her career with the Post Office and was there for close to 20 years. She made many close friends there that made arriving at 4:30 am a much happier task. One of the people that put a smile on her face daily was Augustin “Gus” Santos and they were together for 20 years. Gus loved being out and about just as much as Cheryl and they enjoyed many camping and fishing trips together, as well as other adventurous common interests. In 2000 Cheryl had retired and she moved to the outskirts of town to a shared property with her mother Dorothy and her grandmother Sarah. She was glad to get away from the city and loved her new peace and quiet. In 2002 Jenny gave birth to Cheryls one and only grandson, Roxton. She was so happy and proud to become “Nene”. Over the next 22 years Cheryl got to spend her retired years devoted to spending time with her family and loved ones, including her fur babies. In death Cheryl has been reunited with her mother Dorothy and father John, as well as her grandmother Sarah, grandfather Arthur, and her Aunt Mary. She is survived by her Aunt Rachel Barlow and her beautiful family, sister Kaleen and husband Victor Jones, daughter Jenny Kennon, grandson Roxton Kennon, nieces and nephews Jamila and husband Donald “Snow” Snowden, Darnell and wife Angela Jones, “Art” Jones and wife Jaime Montemayor, Cameo and husband Samuel Wetzl, great niece and nephews Ava, Dayvion, and Walker, as well as several cousins and their families. Cheryl will always be loved and missed…until we meet again
