Greg Joseph Whalen

My husband of 31 years, best friend and soul mate Greg Joseph "Gregors" Whalen, age 56 passed away peacefully at home on December 10th, 2021, with me by his side. He had been surrounded by family and friends that talked about their time with Greg with laughter and tears through out the day. Greg was born October 12th, 1965 in Hanover Park, Illinois to James and Rosean Whalen. Greg spent his childhood there where he enjoyed family, friends and playing many different sports and began his life long love of the Chicago Bears but even more so the Chicago Cubs. In January of 1980 his family moved to Oak Hill, Texas where he made life long friends during highschool and then attended Southwest Texas for a few years. In November of 1988 his brother Pat Whalen and himself started Press Corp Printing where they had a successful business until 2002. His knowledge of the printing industry was well known throughout the Austin area and he made many friends and business associates over the years. Greg endured many health issues and finally had to give up working. Once retired he was able to spend more time with his four legged kids and truly enjoyed the love they gave him. He had many loves in his life, his 1967 Camaro and my 1961 Corvair which he loved to take to car shows. He loved going to many rock concerts, listening to classic rock and singing in the hot tub. Greg also loved the Chicago Bears, no matter how their season was doing and his Cubbies who finally broke the curse of the billy goat and won the World Series in 2016. His sense of humor was very unique, infact many times he made himself laugh just thinking about something. He loved his family and friends and was one of those people that would give you the shirt off his back if needed. Greg is survived by myself Leslie Whalen, his father James Patrick Whalen, his brothers, Steve Whalen and wife Connie, James Patrick Whalen Jr. and wife Valerie, Carl Whalen and wife Sylvia, as well as many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his in-laws Kenneth and Jewell Orr and our kids, Cora Bella, Cricket and Marmalade. He was proceeded in death by his mother Rosean Whalen and his brother Johnny Whalen, along with his grandparents Carl and Josephine Paglini and John and Esther Whalen. Greg was a very special soul and I feel very lucky to have been able to share my life with him for so many years. He may not be walking beside me any longer, but I know he will be checking in on me, our kids and all of the family and friends that meant so much to him. There will be a celebration of Greg's life on January 22, 2022, from 12:00-4:00 at parents home in Dripping Springs, Texas. Thank you to all of the doctors, nurses, heath care workers and Kindred Hospice for treating my husband with compassion, kindness and dignity over the past few years as well as very recently.
