Joseph Gilbert McCoy

Joseph Gilbert McCoy, beloved husband, stepfather, devoted grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully on January 9, at the age of 79. For more than 22 years, Gil was a loving and steady presence in our lives. As a husband, stepfather, and grandfather, he was family in every sense of the word—kind, patient, and deeply devoted to those he loved. Gil was the oldest of four siblings and is survived by his brother, David McCoy, and his wife, Jamie McCoy, and their children, Matt McCoy, Bryan McCoy and his wife, Arianna, and Paul McCoy; his sister, Nancy Turner, and her husband, Gary Turner, and their children, Megan Brewer and her husband, Matt Brewer, and Caitlin Williams; and his sister, Susanne McCoy Farber, and her husband, Dan Farber, and their daughter, Brittany Suzanne Clark Bratton, and her husband, Keith Bratton. He took great pride in his role as the eldest and cared deeply for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Gilbert McCoy and Ahda McCoy Burrow, and by his stepdaughter, Cassie Correne Mitchell. We find comfort in imagining them together now, watching over all of us. He is also survived by his devoted wife, Sharon Johnson McCoy; his loving stepdaughter, Katie Hawk, and her husband, Billy Hawk; and his cherished grandchildren, Carter Mitchell, Mason DaSilva, Bronson Hawk, Corbin Mitchell, Braylon Hawk, Carson DaSilva, and Grafton Hawk, who brought him endless joy and whom he loved deeply. He is further survived by extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and quiet strength. An old cowboy at heart, Gil spent his life working on the pipeline, where he formed many lifelong friendships that he treasured. He was a proud Mason who valued brotherhood, integrity, and service. He loved the freedom of the open road, enjoyed riding motorcycles, and found peace on the golf course—pursuits that reflected his hardworking spirit and love of life. He was also a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Dime Box, Texas. Gil will be remembered for his loyalty, generosity, strong work ethic, and the love he gave so freely. He was hardworking, funny, and truly one of a kind—an amazing man who taught so many people through both words and example. He gave countless people opportunities and encouragement, believing in them even when they did not yet believe in themselves. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 25, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. 6207 FM 141 Dime Box, TX 77853 Masonic rites will be observed.
