Joyce Elaine Stayton

Joyce Elaine Stayton, 68, of Gatesville, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 10th, 2020, at 12:19 p.m. Joyce Elaine Coleman Gill Stayton was born on April 1, 1952, in Covington, Indiana, to Paul J. Coleman and Mary L. Hollowell Coleman Clodfelder. Joyce graduated from Montezuma High School in Indiana with the class of 1970. On June 26, 1970, she married her first husband, Steven Manley Gill, with whom she had her three beloved children, Steven, Marlana, and Jesse. They moved to Texas in 1982. On December 27, 2011, she married her devoted husband, Gary Glen Stayton. Together they enjoyed supporting their local animal shelter and spoiling their three blue heeler rescues. Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an incredibly selfless person, living very simply and always putting others’ needs before her own. She was dedicated to reading God’s Word, often texting her children inspirational Bible verses. She had a love of animals, and she enjoyed watching the hummingbirds around her many birdfeeders. She loved the color blue and relished the arrival of Texas bluebonnets in the spring. She was also a member of the Guns and Glitz Women’s Shooting League. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul J. Coleman, and her brother, Dan Coleman. She is survived by her husband, Gary Glen Stayton; son Steven (Theresa) Gill; daughter Marlana (Robert) Magill; son, Jesse Gill; and her grandchildren, Quintin Gill, Morgan Magill, and Rory Magill. She is additionally survived by her mother, Mary Clodfelder, of Rockville, Indiana; brothers Paul (Virginia) Coleman of Tangier, Indiana, and Kevin (Anna) Coleman of Alamo, Texas; sisters Jeanette (Gary) Husseman of Rockville, Indiana, and Judy (Dan) Laughner of Williamsport, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14th, at 1:00 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church, 502 W. Business 190, in Copperas Cove, Texas. Joyce’s Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Erick Knight officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joyce’s name to Coryell County Pet Rescue, a no-kill animal shelter located at 2217 East Main Street, Gatesville, Texas. Joyce will be laid to rest on Friday morning at 9:00 a.m., at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, Texas.
