Peggy Dildy Allen

Peggy Joyce (Dildy) Allen was born to Curtis Bentley Dildy and Lillie Bell (Gage) Dildy in Austin, Texas, on May 12, 1941. She passed away in Bell County, Texas, on June 29, 2026. She graduated from Austin's McCallum High School and attended Durham Business College before marrying Frank Winston Allen on August 20, 1961, shortly after her 20th birthday. They shared an entrepreneurial life and lived in Austin, Little Rock, Ben Wheeler, and Temple. They say behind every great man is an even better woman, and Peggy is a prime example of that. Peggy was a devoted wife, a loving mom, a "Mimi," and one of the best receptionists Van Zandt County has ever had. Peggy was close with her friends for many years. She loved children and amassed a vast stockpile of special books so young readers would have a new selection every time they came by the front office to show off their reading skills. She never let the candy dish go empty either! She made sure all of the teachers and staff had a friendly ear and a pick-me-up in the middle of trying days. She was a person who always took others into consideration at every turn. Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Frank Winston Allen; her parents, Curtis Bentley Dildy and Lillie Bell (Gage) Dildy; and her brother, Curtis Wayne Dildy. She is survived by her son, Greg Winston Allen; her daughter, Cathy Malinda (Allen) Moore; her grandson, Brent Allen Preston, and his wife, Angela Joy (Detore) Preston, who lovingly cared for Peggy as family during her later years; her grandson, Braiden Lamar Moore, who brought her endless smiles; her great-granddaughters, whom she teased endlessly, Coralynn Gage Preston, Caileigh Jo Preston, and Callen Grace Preston; her sister-in-law, Louise Grace (Allen) Jackson; her nieces, Sheri Dildy and Tracy Barrett; and a rich host of extended family, friends, and former co-workers. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Bagdad Cemetery in Leander, Texas. A graveside memorial service will be held to share memories and celebrate her precious life. Date and time will be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Peggy's memory to the J.E. Rhodes Elementary Sunshine Fund.
