Robert Dale Whitwell

Robert Dale Whitwell, age 65, of Lockhart, Texas, passed away on September 2, 2026, in Austin, Texas. Robert was born on September 4, 1960, in Bangkok, Thailand, to Delbert and Willowease Whitwell. Robert graduated from William B. Travis High School in 1978. During high school, he discovered his love for working with cars and trucks through auto body classes. That passion stayed with him throughout his life. He loved performance cars, watching races, and spending time working on vehicles. Over the years, he took great pride in fixing up his Little Red Express truck, Mustang, and Jeep. Some of Robert's favorite memories were the experiences he shared with the people he loved. One especially memorable adventure was attending the Formula 1 races, where he enjoyed having a box and inviting his son and brother to join him. They even had the unforgettable opportunity to take a couple of laps in a race car. Those were the kinds of moments Robert treasured—sharing something he loved and making memories with his family. Robert had a lifelong passion for football. He wanted his boys to share in the joy of sports and was deeply involved in their activities. He spent many years coaching and refereeing football games throughout the Houston area. Whether he was on the field or cheering from the sidelines, Robert loved being involved and supporting his family. He also had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time at the lake. He had a genuine love for animals and found joy in caring for them. Robert was happiest when he was outside, working with his hands, exploring, or simply enjoying the beauty of the world around him. Robert was also a wonderful planner when it came to vacations. He enjoyed dreaming about places to visit and creating adventures for his family. He especially dreamed of visiting the nation's national parks and loved the idea of exploring new places and making memories along the way. Above all, Robert loved the Lord. His faith was a source of comfort and strength to him. He found peace in listening to Christian music and enjoyed sharing Christian videos and messages with his family and friends. His faith remained an important part of his life. Robert will be remembered for the passions he shared, the adventures he planned, the time he gave to his family, and the memories he created with those he loved. His family will especially cherish the many stories, laughs, and good times they shared with him. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Willowease Whitwell; his son, Christopher Whitwell; and his sister, Audrey Powers. He is survived by his son, Benjamin Whitwell, and his wife, Meredith Whitwell; his beloved granddaughter, Emma; his brothers, Michael Whitwell and his wife, Nancy, and Jon Whitwell and his wife, Marie; his sisters, Monett Fowler and her husband, Fred, and Tammy Dittmar and her husband, Carl; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts. Pallbearers will be: Jon Whitwell, Wayne Dittmar, Patrick Moreno, Eric Dittmar, Joshua Smith and Donald Whitehead A graveside service celebrating Robert's life will be held at Onion Creek Memorial Park on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
