Vic O’Brien On the morning of May 4, 2015, Vic O’Brien left his physical body to return to his spiritual home. Vic has lived in Leander, TX since August 2008. Vic was born December 17, 1933 in Chicago, IL and was raised by his beloved single mother, Catherine Kirn Seabrook. Vic has served the United States in multiple capacities. Vic joined the U.S. Marines straight out of high school. He was the quintessential “mustang,” joining as enlisted, serving in combat, and spending several decades working his way into the officer ranks. Vic has served in the U.S. Marines, Army and Air Force, and retired at the rank of Major. He is a recipient of the Purple Heart, and served on both active and reserve duty. In addition to military service, Vic also worked in civilian Department of Defense and intelligence agencies. Over his career, Vic has earned degrees in criminal justice, business and legal administration, and completed Command and General Staff College. He spent many years as Brynne’s legal assistant while she ran a private “people’s law” practice in Arizona and North Carolina. Vic is survived by: his wife, best friend, and soul mate of 33 years, Dr. Brynne VanHettinga; his children and extended family: Kathy Seabrook of Mendham, NJ; John and Robin Seabrook of Centreville, VA; Mike and Teri Seabrook of Nashville, TN; Tom and Robin Seabrook of Grayson, GA; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also missing their “daddy” are our cats Salt and Pepper. We extend our thanks to the team at Hospice Austin: Jason, Jane, Rev. Dr. Ann Hagmann, and everyone else who came out on evenings and weekends to tend to our needs during Vic’s final weeks. Everything good you have heard about Hospice is true! If you want to honor Vic, we ask that you help support an organization of your choice that assists disabled veterans such as Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Blinded Veterans Association, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Iraq or Vietnam War Veterans Associations, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), or the Wounded Warrior Project.
