Janelle Gravlick Comiskey

October 13, 1965 - February 16, 2015

COMISKEY, Janelle Gavlick Janelle Gavlick Comiskey joined the angels in heaven on February 16, 2015, after four years of meeting head-on the challenges of breast cancer. Following her diagnosis, the gal with the radiant smile, who loved living, people, and dogs, joined The Pink Ribbon Cowgirls, an amazing support team of breast cancer survivors. Janelle was a giver, always spreading the word and taking part in a myriad of fund-raisers that ranged from modeling for Art Bra Austin to biking twenty-three miles for the Texas Mamma Jamma Ride Against Breast Cancer. She volunteered at the WilCo Humane Society as a foster dog mother; participated in the Brain Power 5K; and served as guest speaker at the Motorcycle Fundraising Ride for "Heal in Comfort." Janelle loved a good time and she loved her Spider Motorcycle. To prove she was a warrior, she rode that black bike from Knoxville, TN to Austin in one day. Janelle retired from the State Comptroller's Office in 2012 after thirty years of service, refusing to miss a day of work even during extended periods of chemo and radiation. Born October 13, 1965, in San Antonio, Janelle is survived by her husband Ben Comiskey of Georgetown; parents Lela and Robert Talley of San Antonio; daughter Janette Hood and husband Josh of Fort Bragg, NC; sisters Susan Lee Adams and husband Charles Lee of McAllen, TX and Rebecca Lynn Kiyabu and husband Alex of Savannah, TX; brothers Larry Dell Gavlick of Roanoke, TX, Rob Talley of San Antonio, and Kevin Talley and wife Jenny of Grey Forest, TX; stepchildren Jeremy Comiskey of Houston, Natalie Comiskey of Temple, Elizabeth Giddings and husband Bobby of San Antonio, and Will Comiskey and wife Jessica of Hutto. Grandchildren who loved their Grandma Janelle are Nate, Alexis, Kolton, A.J., and Carsen; and various nieces and nephews; Ben's parents Myra and Stroud McIlvain of Austin and Ben and Frankie Comiskey of Tyler. Family friend Scott Rice was an invaluable help to Janelle and Ben. A Celebration of Janelle's Life will be held Saturday, February 21st, at 2 pm at Gateway Church, 7104 McNeill Dr., Austin, TX 78729. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Janelle be sent to Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas (BCRC), P.O. Box 300040, Austin, Texas 78703. http://www.bcrc.org/donate/general-donations/ or to Gateway Church.
