Julio John Cristobal Jr., 58, died Nov. 29, 2017. He was born Dec. 19, 1958, in Honolulu to Julio Cristobal and Margaret Josol of Hawaii. He was a champion body surfer in Hawaii and known as “Da Hawaiian” in the transportation industry in Texas. He also loved Hawaiian music, cooking and the Dallas Cowboys. Julio is survived by fiancée and love of his life Leona Viernes of Round Rock, Texas; daughters Malia and Maile Capers-Cristobal of Elgin, Texas; granddaughter Leila of Elgin; father James “Pawpaw” Long of Yoakum, Texas; sisters Bonnie Aragon (and her husband Eddie) of Hawaii, Darilyn Cristobal of Hawaii, Marcy Sweatman of Houston, Octavia Delgado of Victoria, Jaime Mraz (and her husband Mike) of Shiner, Monica Love (and her husband Charles) of California; brothers John Cristobal (and his wife Lindsay) of California and John T. “JT” Long of Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and friends he called family. If you didn’t know “Pops,” you definitely heard of him or from him on the sidelines of his daughter’s Austin Outlaws football games. He was known for his humor and ability to make you feel like family. He loved cooking his Filipino and Hawaiian food and shared it with everyone. A celebration of Julio’s life will be held on Friday, Dec. 15, at VFW Post 4443, 7614 Thomas Springs Road, Austin, Texas.
