Nancy Shay

March 24, 1950 - February 25, 2021

On the night of Thursday, February 25th, 2021, our most beloved Nancy Maddela Shay passed away in her sleep after battling with post-COVID complications. She was 70 years young. Nancy was born on March 24th, 1950 in Manila, Philippines to Pedro and Corazon (Peredes) Maddela and was one of six children. She graduated with a degree in nursing from the University of the Philippines. Shortly after graduation, Nancy moved to Louisiana to pursue work, becoming the first in her family to move to the United States. She later met and married her husband, Patrick Shay, and they raised two children together, Michael and Tina. They moved to Houston, TX after sometime, where Nancy continued working in nursing. Nancy was a social butterfly, always being the first to wave and greet every person she met with kindness and warmth. She loved to laugh, crack jokes, and make friends with anyone and everyone. She was quick to show love and affection through gifts, and enjoyed spending time with her family. Nancy enjoyed food more than most, along with dancing, music, and traveling. In her recent years, she made wonderful friendships with her nurses and residents at the Park Bend Health Center. She loved to tell everyone how good she was at bingo! Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Pedro, her mother, Corazon, her two brothers, Mar and Romeo, and her husband, Patrick. She is survived by her son, Michael, daughter, Tina, three sisters, Edith, Yolanda, and Shirley, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 6th, 2021 at the Eloise Woods Natural Burial Park outside of Austin, TX. Flowers and donations can be sent to the locations below. The walk from the parking area to the burial site is not paved. We expect some light rain in the days leading up to the funeral, so we ask that you prepare for the possibility of mud and dress accordingly. Due to the pandemic, we kindly ask that you wear a mask and social distance when possible. Parking is very limited, so please plan to carpool if possible.
