Richard David Pierce
May 31, 1956 - October 3, 2020
Richard David Pierce of Round Rock, Texas passed from this life on October 3rd, 2020. David was born in Austin, Texas on May 31st, 1956 to Allen Lee and Velma Lee Pierce. After graduating from McCallum High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society, he attended Stephen F. Austin University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement. This began a lifelong career with law enforcement agencies in Burnet, Tyler, Round Rock, and Cedar Park, Texas. David began his law enforcement career in Burnet, Texas in 1978. He joined the Tyler Police Department and graduated from the East Texas Police Academy in May, 1983. In addition to his patrol duties, David was recognized for his work with elementary schools as a mentor. While helping these young students academically, he promoted a trust of police officers that had not been previously established. Beyond many letters of appreciation, David was recognized as an Outstanding Young Man of America in 1985 for “Outstanding Professional Achievement, Superior Leadership Ability, and Exceptional Service to the Community.” After leaving the Tyler Police Department, David moved his family to Round Rock where he joined the Round Rock Police Department as a patrol officer in September, 1986. Over the course of twenty-two years, David was recognized and given commendations for his work with the Blue Santa Program, the Citizens Police Academy, suicide prevention, and many other acknowledgements to his service in the community. David retired from the Round Rock Police Department in March of 2008 having attained the rank of Senior Staff Sergeant. He was retired for a short time before joining the Cedar Park Police Department in January 2009 as a Reserve Officer, serving as a court bailiff for ten years. During this time, David focused not only on bailiff’s duties, but on training court staff in safety and security. He became one of the first bailiffs in the state to be certified as a Court Security Specialist. David retired from the Cedar Park Police Department in May 2019 after accumulating over forty years in law enforcement. There was so much more to David than can be expressed in these few words. He was a man who could show the hard shell of a street cop when needed as easily as the compassion of one who must deliver news a family never wants to hear. In addition to his many years of public service, David spent over 25 years working with Special Olympics helping athletes with intellectual disabilities. His support of the athletes was absolute. He told stories of the many events he assisted in, but never about anything he did, only his pride in the athletes. He was also an avid hunter who enjoyed the outdoors. David met Angela (Angie) Dotson, the love of his life while attending Stephen F. Austin University. He and Angie married December 17th, 1977, and shared their lives until her passing in September, 2018. Beginning in 2009, David and Angie served in the Stephen Ministry at High Point Fellowship Church in Cedar Park, Texas. Both had hearts of servants and used their training and compassion to comfort and give guidance to the hurting and those without hope. David would often state this was the most fulfilling work he had ever undertaken. David is preceded in death by his wife, Angela (Angie) Dotson Pierce, and his father, Allen Lee Pierce. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Bethany Pierce Goulding, her husband, Michael Goulding, grandson Bradley Goulding, son Nathaniel Pierce and his wife Amanda Willoughby Pierce, mother, Velma Lee Pierce, sister Janet Pierce, brothers Allen Pierce and wife Pinki, Gene Pierce and wife Pam, and numerous friends and extended family. In lieu of flowers, David requested donations be made to www.ChristianLeaderRenewal.com, www.NeemaVillage.org, and GreaterThingsAdoption.com.
