Rodney James Johnson

Rodney James Johnson A Memorial service for Rodney J. Johnson, will be held on March 21 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Portales. Rodney passed away March 12 at the age of 75 in Harker Heights, Texas. He was born December 24, 1938 in Pender, Nebraska to Walter and Martha (Sundstrom) Johnson. He married Sharon (Seaton) Johnson on July 16, 1965 in Sioux City, Iowa. For the majority of his life, Rodney was a farmer in Nebraska and New Mexico. He also honorably served in the US Army as a military policeman spending most of his career in Berlin, Germany. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Keith Johnson. Survivors include his wife Sharon of 48 years; daughter, Melissa Bowman and her husband James of Cocoa, Florida; son Brandon and his wife Rebecca of Killeen, Texas; brother Kevin and his wife Cheryl of Norfolk, Nebraska and six grandchildren: Aidan Bowman, Lily Johnson, Noah Johnson, Abenezer Johnson, Eden Johnson, and Joel Johnson. Rodney loved agriculture, animals, woodworking, and rebuilding cars and bikes. He was a member of the Arch Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to the Gideons International or the New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home.
