Sheila Marie Smith-McAnelly, age 63 passed away on Monday, September 20,2021 at her home in Austin surrounded by the love of her family after years of courageously battling many chronic illnesses. Sheila was born in Orange, Texas on July 30,1958 to the late John and Sally Smith. She was raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she attended Barbe High School. She was the second oldest of the seven “Smith” siblings, the heart of the family and considered one of the strongest people you would ever meet. In 1983 the Smith family moved to Austin where she met the love of her life Jim McAnelly, Jr. They were blessed to have 35 years of marriage. The love they shared was unwavering, once married she became an instant mother to her three stepchildren, Sheri (Steven) Hubnik, Lilly (Ralph) Jaramillo, and James McAnelly III. Which in time gave her seven grandchildren Anthony Arispe, Desarae and John Osborn, Arellana and Lance Jaramillo, Vance and Sarah Pederzani. Sheila was devoted to her entire family, and is survived by her siblings Rebecca LaFleur, Ronald Smith, Belinda (Marc Decker) DePrisco, Angie (Jim) Hampton, Roderick (Suzette) Smith, Melissa (Dan) Hooper. Many of her nephews and nieces considered her their second mom as she helped raise them as her own. The surviving nephews and nieces are Chris and Kim LaFleur, Faith (Jason Breaux) Smith-Myers, Brian, Drew, and Kayla Smith, Brandee, Mary (Tamil), Aaron, and Nickolas (Tayler) DePrisco, Joshua Rust, Travis, Drake, and Spencer Hampton, Ian, Jacob and Seth Hooper. Her great nieces and nephews are Ethan Boone, Margaret, Brenna, and Darryan (Jayme) Smith-Myers, Malaysia, Addison, Kailee and Micah DePrisco. One great-great nephew Syllis Smith-Myers. Sheila also found great joy in the love she had for her fur babies. This is a family of best friends and enjoys every part of life together. There were many days of camping trips, crawfish boils, river floats, beach trips, and never-ending birthday celebrations. She truly treasured her family and friends, and the feeling was mutual. Sheila will always be remembered for her radiant smile, twinkling spirit, generous heart and her potato salad! Many say that she is the kindest person they ever met and have been in awe of the strength she frequently showed in troubling times. All will miss her steadfast support and love. Sheila found beauty in both the simple and the grand. She made life better for all who knew her and will be deeply missed. A celebration of life will take place Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 4:00 to 6:00 at The Oaks at Forest Creek Country Club- 95 Twin Ridge Pkwy, Round Rock, TX.
