She was an elementary school teacher starting in El Paso in 1971 and then retiring from the Austin Independent School District in 2004. Upon retiring from teaching, she worked for the Catholic Diocese of Austin in the Office of the Vicar. After five years away from teaching, she came to the realization that she just simply couldn’t stay away from what she loved, so she returned to teaching for the Manor School District from 2009-2014. Thirty-eight years of teaching, molding, and influencing young minds while building countless relationships with her students, their parents, the faculty, and staff in the process. Virginia, ever the busybody, also taught adult ESL classes at night for church and for Austin Community College. She was very active in the Catholic Church and was a familiar face at most church events. Virginia was diagnosed, treated, and cleared of Breast Cancer in 2018, and was tough in her own way. She truly treasured her family and her closest friends. Virginia will always be remembered for her smile, complete selflessness and love towards others, and steadfast faith and prayer life. She was considered by all who knew her as one of the sweetest people you would ever meet, and an angel to many.
