Charles B. Galloway

Charles Bluford Galloway Jr., born May 15th, 1954, passed away on July 13th, 2025 at his home in Georgetown, Texas. Charles deeply loved his family, friends, and wife Dianne, but he also took great pleasure in starting conversations with complete strangers, rooting for the Longhorns, reading a good science fiction novel, listening to classical music, and of course pizza and tacos. Born in the Philippines, he was the first child of Charles and Jody Galloway. Although much of his childhood was spent in Pakistan and Germany, he enjoyed many of the typical childhood experiences -- playing Little League Baseball and scouting, even achieving his Eagle Scout Badge before moving back to Fort Meade, Maryland. When his father retired from the Air Force in 1969, the family settled in Austin where he attended Holy Cross High School. Having to move schools often, he always held dear the friends he made at Holy Cross because “you never have the sort of friends you have when you’re fifteen ever again.” After Holy Cross closed, he transferred to Reagan High where he graduated in 1972. Receiving a degree in business from the University of Texas in Austin, he experienced Austin when Armadillo World Headquarters and Liberty Lunch were in their heyday. He took full advantage. He loved exploring and spending time finding the best swimming holes in and around the Hill Country, rafting in Big Bend and perfecting his grilling skills. Charles remained in Austin where he started a business, bought a house, and was blessed with a son, Graham. He was very involved in raising Graham, supporting him in boy scouts, soccer, and later tennis. They enjoyed a bachelor life accompanied by their dog Scout. In 2001, he met Dianne on a blind date and often called her the “love of his life”. They married in 2003, and he gained his stepdaughter, Caitlin. He and Dianne raised their children together and made many happy memories at their Austin home on Laurel Canyon. Some of the memories Charles returned to again and again were weekends at the lake with the kids, back to school/end of school and Christmas parties they held yearly. But the most revered were the trips they took as a family – snorkeling in Hawaii and camping on Orcas Island, watching whales on a trip to Tofino, an epic game of Cranium and a near disastrous bike ride down the mountain at Angel Fire (although a favorite story) and many more. One of his lasting legacies to his children will be the love of adventure and travel he instilled in them. Charles and Dianne loved living in Austin but chose to retire to Georgetown. Drawn to the charm of the square, the wonderful restaurants, the plays at the Palace, and the beautiful parks, they found a wonderful new home, only a “conversation away” from Austin. Although Charles struggled with several health challenges in the last few years, the support and concern of his family and many good friends was deeply appreciated and made him feel loved. He was very aware that to love and be loved is the greatest blessing anyone could wish to receive. Charles is preceded in death by his father, Charles Galloway Sr. and brother Doug Galloway. He is survived by his wife, Dianne Galloway, son Graham Galloway, daughter Caitlin Coughlan, son-in-law Zak Youngquist, mother Jody Bartoli, stepfather Kearney Bartoli, brother Rick Galloway, sister Susan Durrett, Uncle Omar Holguin, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and of course Ruby, his beloved dog. A memorial service will be held at the San Gabriel Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Georgetown, TX on July 26th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for a contribution toward reforestation of New Mexico's national forests, a place that was near and dear to Charles's heart. A tree may be planted in his honor through A Living Tribute. Donations may also be made to NAMI Austin.
