Joe A. Bachicha Jr.

We gather to honor and celebrate the extraordinary life of Joe A. Bachicha, Jr., a man whose warmth, humor, and love left an indelible mark on all who knew him. Born on January 31, 1933, Joe graced this world for 91 remarkable years before peacefully passing on November 20, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in cherishing the abundant joy and love he brought into our lives. Joe’s life was a beautiful journey of devotion and adventure. On August 30, 1952, he married the love of his life, Maggie Portillo. Their union, which lasted an incredible 62 years until Maggie’s passing, was a testament to enduring love. Together, they embraced the freedom of the open road, sharing countless adventures on their Harley-Davidson motorcycles. After Maggie fell ill, Joe set aside his riding days to care for her, but after her passing, he reignited his passion for the road, riding until the age of 89. Ever the adventurer, he dreamed of riding until he was 92—and he nearly made it. Joe served his country with honor, spending four years in the Army stationed in Alaska and Fort Leonard Wood. Following his military service, he devoted 30 years to the El Paso Water Department as a Print Shop Supervisor. In retirement, he pursued work as an electrician before settling in Austin to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren, continuing to share his humor, wisdom, and zest for life with all. Joe was a storyteller, an adventurer, and a friend to many. His dogs, Minnie and Amber, were cherished companions, and he often spoke fondly of the people he met through his motorcycle journeys, calling them “the nicest people around.” Whether sharing a funny story, planning his next adventure, or celebrating with loved ones, Joe brought light and laughter wherever he went. Joe leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that lives on through his family: his daughters and sons-in-law, Joella Bachicha, Margaret and Robert Bachicha, and James and Lisa Caramanica; his six grandchildren, Angelo, Nick, Danielle, Genesis, Jack, and Samantha; and his eight great-grandchildren, Bradley, Avery, Emily, Lucy, Isaiah, Zoe, Ariel, and Jude. He never missed a birthday, even ensuring gifts reached his great-grandchildren from his hospital bed. His family will forever treasure the memories of their devoted grandpa and great grandpa. Joe also cherished his neighbors and friends, whose kindness and companionship enriched his life to the very end. His vibrant spirit and unshakable faith remain a source of inspiration. May he now find rest in the arms of our Lord Jesus, with a Harley waiting for him at Heaven’s gates, ready to take him on his next great adventure. "Almighty God, we thank You for the comfort of Your Word. Please calm our hearts as we grieve the loss of our earthly father. Comfort him in Heaven and let him know how deeply he is missed. May we find joy in knowing he is with You, forever at peace."
