Martha Jane Perryman

Martha Jane Coulter Perryman , age 99, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 7, 2025. Born on January 20, 1926, in Moody, Texas, Martha was the daughter of Claude Orestes and Thyra Violet Coulter. She was raised on her family farm on Liberty Hill alongside her siblings: Harry Orestes “Rastus,” Mary Elizabeth, and Violet Ladine “Lad”. On November 9, 1946, Martha married her childhood sweetheart, Doran Calvin “DoDo” Perryman, at the Methodist Parsonage in Eddy, Texas. Together, they made a remarkable team. Martha kept the books for the family farm, hauled cotton, and ran the household with grace and strength. Whether you knew her as Martha Jane, Mart, WW (Wonder Woman), MJ the Great, Mama, or MawMaw, you knew she possessed the true gift of hospitality. She could pull together a delicious meal—usually with homemade pies—at a moment’s notice. All were welcome at her and DoDo’s table, where there was always a pitcher of sweet tea. Martha was a lifelong member of Moody-Leon Methodist Church, where she faithfully served her community. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, D.C. Perryman; her parents; her brother and two sisters; her dear son, Michael Perryman; and her cherished granddaughter, Sarah Kate “Katie” Kitchens. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Patricia and Paul Kitchens, Mary Catherine and Christopher Brooks, daughter-in-law, Rita Perryman, and her son, John Dennis and Brenda Perryman, all of Moody, Texas. Her legacy continues through her 11 grandchildren: Page and Troy Glasson, Kelly and Ray Ragsdale, Joseph Kitchens, Samuel and Jaclyn Kitchens, Anna and Brady McWhorter, Wes and Misty Perryman, Melody and J.C. Wall, Lindsey and Ray Hansen, Rebekah Brooks, and Rachel and Willy Pierce. She was also blessed with 17 great-grandchildren: Isabel (Casey), Eli, Emma, Reagan, Coulter, Sunny, Stella, Albie, Sophia, Beatrix, Georgia, Layla, Jake, Milo, Henry, Parker, and Calvin. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Martha’s devoted caregivers, Patricia Dominguez, Eva Dominguez, and Cindy Campbell. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Moody-Leon Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice.
