Peggy Ann Avery

Her name was Peggy Ann Avery; she was the most incredible person, woman, sister, daughter, wife, mother and friend who transcended from her earthly body into an Angelic state at birth. She was truly one of God’s blessed Angels who walked, lived, loved, played, cried, sang, worked, helped, uplifted, consoled, supported, inspired, smiled and laughed among us. The world is a far better place and we are far better people to have known and loved her. Peggy was born of/to Hermann George Avery and Lillian Dorothy Knabe Avery in Little Rock, Arkansas on a crisp autumn day on the 22nd. Day of October 1933. Peggy was raised in a vibrant Christian home/family of ten! She was one of the middle daughters in this loving Avery family. Peggy Ann Avery left this earth to be with her Father in Heaven and through Him and with him has also joined her earthly father, Herman George Avery, her mother, Lillian Dorothy Knabe Avery, her brother, HG Avery, her sister, Joyce Avery Brown, her sister, Linda Avery Wittenburg and many other relatives and past friends. Peggy has left behind her earthly sisters, Betty Avery Terrell, Marie Avery Morris, Marilyn Avery Bethel, and one brother, John Avery. Peggy has also left behind four daughters who loved, respected, honored and treasured her life more than words can ever express. Daughters Leah Ann Sellers, Donna Marie Sellers, Lisa Rene’ Sellers Roberts, and Dawn Elizabeth Avery (Sellers) will miss their mother beyond measure. They hold on to their faith that they too will join their heavenly father and their mother when they are also called home. Peggy Ann Avery has left behind three Grandsons, a Granddaughter and two Great Grandsons. Grandsons; Jonathan Levi Burch, Daniel Albert Roberts, and Shawn Patrick Donnelly, Granddaughter, Tasha Monique Garmin and Great Grandson’s Aydan James Roberts and little Alijah Jayce Roberts and Great Granddaughter, Billie Quinn Garmon. They too will miss their precious Grandmother in their own very special ways. Peggy will also be sorely missed by her two sons- in-law, Patrick Roberts and Bill Clark. They adored her and she them. Peggy spent her youth in Arkansas loving the culture, the beautiful lush and rolling (rocky) hills in which she and her seven brothers and sisters spent their childhood discovering. Peggy enjoyed spending time helping her Grandfather Knabe with chores around his cabin. She spent countless hours telling her children all about the coon dogs, his gardens, his German accent, bringing up water from the spring fed creek and jumping on his old feather bed. She enjoyed church services with her family and learned to love her Lord through a kind, loving and spiritual family environment. The Missionary Baptist Church off of the old Congo road was Peggy’s first church home and continued to hold a special place in her heart her entire life. Peggy loved… loved… loved… her family. Her parents, sisters and brothers could do no wrong – ever. Peggy moved to Port Neches, Texas to live with her Aunt and Uncle, Effie and John Avery, her senior year of High School. She graduated in 1952 and then married her High School Sweetheart, Albert Lemoyne Sellers the very same year. Peggy always told her girls that she fell in love with their Daddy from the front row of choir practice without even seeing who he was. She loved his voice – she loved him. Peggy also took business courses at Lamar University. Peggy’s happiest times were when she had moved her family to Brenham, Texas in 1967. She was right in the middle of a hundred acres filled with wildlife, horses, cows, chickens, dogs and cats. She simply loved the country life! She had a special gift with animals, children and meeting folks. Everyone loved her. She had a special way of making everyone feel accepted, appreciated and understood. She had a kind word for everyone and spoke kindly about everyone she met. She always looked for the best in people. She had the most beautiful and radiant smile one could ever see. Peggy was extremely talented in/with many things. She could create a masterpiece out of junk! She enjoyed sewing, gardening, drawing, painting, cooking, training horses, fixing things, fashion, decorating, and music. She was great at everything she tried to do. She loved to hear great (clean) jokes and great stories. She loved to laugh and spread cheer. She had a wonderful sense of humor! She was a very smart, clever and classy lady – such a beautiful woman inside and out! Peggy had the loveliest singing voice and was on a high when she was singing with her daughters. One of her favorite pastimes was listening to her daughters sing on any stage! One of her life’s highlights was singing with her daughters on the Grand Ole Opry stage. She cried during most of the song because she just could not believe she was singing on a program that she listened to for years on an old radio in the living room of her childhood home. Her daughters were her life and she was the pulse of theirs. Peggy also found great joy in her Grandchildren. She loved conversing with them, playing with them and watching them grow. They loved her immensely. In the year 2000 Peggy moved into a bungalow on the property of her daughter, Lisa and her husband, Patrick, in Liberty Hill, Texas. She quickly made the bungalow her beautiful home. She planted, cared for goats, horses, cats, dogs and her beloved chickens. Lisa and Patrick felt very blessed to have Peggy living out her retirement years alongside them. Peggy loved the outdoors; she often told folks that she wished she could just live outdoors with the animals, without the bugs, of course! Peggy was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer in December of 2013 and lost her battle to the horrible disease on Saturday, June 7th. 2014 at 5:35pm. She was surrounded by her daughters and other family members. They were able to sing hymns, share family memories, brush her hair, share some laughter, and hold her hands and her heart. Jesus came and took her hand and now our Lord has the most beautiful Angel to grace his Kingdom. She is finally at peace and is suffering no more. Her spirit and powerful light will forever shine upon us all. We love you Peggy Ann Avery – forever in our music, thoughts, hearts and spirits! Peggy Ann Avery you are and always will be the “Wind Beneath Our Wings"! We love you Mother! Leah Ann, Donna Marie, Lisa Rene’ and Dawn Elizabeth It must have been cold there in our shadow, to never have sunlight on your face. You were content to let us shine, that's your way. You always walked a step behind. So we were the one with all the glory, while you were the one with all the strength. A beautiful face without a name for so long. A beautiful smile to hide the pain. Did you ever know that you're our hero, and everything we would like to be? We can fly higher than an eagle, 'cause you were the wind beneath our wings. It might have appeared to go unnoticed, but we’ve got it all here in our hearts. We want you to know we know the truth, of course we know it. We would be nothing without you.
