Roger J. DeCoux

Roger Joseph DeCoux, a beloved father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Austin, Texas, on December 12, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on June 15, 1949, in Faribault, Minnesota, he was the son of Albert Peter DeCoux and Shirley Marie (Simmons) DeCoux. His unwavering dedication to family marked Roger's journey through life, his passion for mechanics, and a love for dancing that brought joy to those around him. Roger grew up surrounded by the love of his parents and his siblings. Preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Frances DeCoux, his grandparents: Cecelia and Frank Simmons, and Julius and Anna DeCoux, his brother Bruce DeCoux, his sister Karen (DeCoux) Johnson, his brother-in-law Cliff Johnson, sisters-in-law Jane DeCoux and Nancy DeCoux, his nephew Brian DeCoux and his daughter Kimberly (Croy) Jackson. He is survived by his adoring children, Janelle (DeCoux) Johnson, Jeff Decoux, Monica (Patterson) DeCoux, Jeana DeCoux and Jean (Crumrine) Stafford; his grandchildren: Megan (Johnson) Schruber, Chelsea Crumrine, Taylor DeCoux, Jennifer Croy, Grant DeCoux, Ethan DeCoux, Reilly (DeCoux) Hobbs, Kennedy DeCoux, and London DeCoux; his great-grandchildren: Peyton Schruber, Journey Kelly, Presley Schruber, and Colton Bailey. Additionally, he leaves behind his brothers, Ron and Larry DeCoux, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, “Jill Sue” friends/neighbors and Advanced Automotive family who will miss him dearly. On August 24, 1968, Roger married Deborah Jean (Long) DeCoux, and together, they raised their family in Maple Grove, Minnesota until relocating to Austin, Texas, in 1983. Though they divorced in 1986, Roger remained a dedicated father. In a beautiful twist of fate, Roger met Frances Victoria Croy in 1990. They married on June 10, 1995, and began their extraordinary journey together in Austin, Texas. Their partnership was marked by joy, countless dances, and an enduring love that created a strong foundation for their blended family. The couple enjoyed nearly 30 beautiful years together until Frances's passing on November 5, 2024, just weeks before Roger's death. Roger's professional life spanned over 40 years as an auto mechanic, after teaching the trade he loved and excelled in. His hands were always busy, whether working in his garage or helping friends, neighbors, and family with car troubles. He was known as the go-to person for anyone in need, always willing to lend a helping hand. He could build or fix anything and had an impressive tool collection. In addition to his mechanical skills, Roger had an infectious zest for life. He loved dancing at New West, camping & jet-skiing, going to car shows and car races and bringing joy to those around him with his lively and fun spirit. His ability to connect with others made him a cherished community member, as he was always there for anyone who needed him. In the last months of his life, Roger faced health challenges that required extended time in hospitals before ultimately opting for hospice care. During this difficult period, he was lovingly cared for by his daughters, who ensured that his final days were filled with comfort, love, dignity and lots of Bomb Pops, his absolute favorite treat. Roger Joseph DeCoux will be remembered for his skills and hobbies and the love he shared with his family and friends. His legacy of kindness, hard work, and compassion will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for the remarkable impact he made on the lives he touched. Honoring Roger's wishes, the family requests that, in lieu of funeral services, those wishing to pay tribute can donate to a charity of their choice.
